Quail Spiritual Meaning & Symbolism

Quail can fly, but they're happiest near the ground. A flock of quail will often sit together in a tight circle, tails pointing inward — so if danger arrives, they can scatter out, chaotically, and confuse any predator.

Groups of quail will sometimes take to the air together for a few hundred or even a few thousand miles; but their journeys are often just spurts or even non-stop.

Raising chicks is easier with more parents around. Incubating eggs and caring for baby quail takes so much work that it helps to have others share it. In California quails, for instance, parents that cooperated often lived longer than those that raised their children alone. And a pair of breeding California quail communicate constantly with each other — back and forth in a call-and-answer pattern that both birds keep in synchrony.

In fact, if you're depleted from overthinking and not getting anything done, quail is warning you to rest.

The Quail appears in the Book of Exodus as a sign of supernatural grace — as if it were part of God's design to let them eat for free. And then in the Book of Numbers they had another second chance to not overreach and just be content with the blessings God gives. But, human nature being what it is, even though the Quail reappeared when they asked for meat, they still turned it into something to chase or hoard or obsess over.
