Grouse Spiritual Meaning & Symbolism

Grouse mothers will put their own safety on the line to save their brood. That makes them a symbol of sacrifice for the greater good.

In the spring, males gather in groups and have a mating ritual that includes drumming and posturing. Some see this as reminiscent of sacred dancers, and that's how Grouse also represents tradition and ritual.

Otherwise, grouse stay apart. They're solitary and stay hidden. That's how they protect themselves. They're resourceful and can make it through the winter by sleeping deep underground.

When they find a mate, they claim a spot of land as their own and guard it. And this bird is all about its boundaries! It knows where it is on its own land, too.
